"Our research aims to better understand the biological mechanisms involved in the effects of emotion on memory. This requires examination of release of stress hormones by the adrenal glands, stimulation of the amygdala by the vagus nerve and consequent changes in synaptic plasticity in other areas of the brain such as the hippocampus and cortex. As we gain an understanding of how these processes interact to modulate memory, we hope to develop approaches to treat disorders of memory."
